Canada New PR Pathway for Teachers 2025
Canada has introduced a new immigration pathway for teachers seeking permanent residency. In February 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the addition of an Education Occupations category to the Express Entry system. This initiative aims to address labor shortages in the education sector by facilitating the immigration process for qualified educators.
Eligible Occupations
The Education Occupations category includes the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes:
Assist teachers in classroom settings.
Provide instruction to individuals with disabilities.
Work with young children in educational settings.
Teach at the elementary and kindergarten levels.
Teach at the secondary school level.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify under this category, candidates must:
Have at least six months of full-time, continuous work experience in one of the eligible occupations within the past three years. This experience can be gained in Canada or abroad.
Meet the required scores in English or French language proficiency tests.
Possess relevant educational qualifications, which may need to be assessed for Canadian equivalency through an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
Application Process
Submit a profile through the IRCC’s Express Entry system, ensuring all information is accurate and complete.
Once your profile is submitted, you will be placed in the pool of candidates and ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
If you meet the criteria for the Education Occupations category and have a competitive CRS score, you may receive an ITA during a category-based draw.
After receiving an ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency, including all required documents and fees.
This targeted approach reflects Canada’s commitment to addressing specific labor market needs by attracting skilled professionals in the education sector.
