Compensation Model – Net Collected Billings

The Pax Law Advantage

We offer a transparent, performance-based compensation model designed to reward productivity and align with professional obligations in British Columbia and Ontario.

Compensation Structure (Paid Semi-Monthly):
Lawyers engaged through the Firm are compensated solely on a percentage of Net Collected Billings, calculated per half-month period.

Net Collected Billings refers to funds actually received by the Firm for the lawyer’s billable legal services, after the recovery of disbursements, administrative costs, overhead, write-offs, reversals, refunds, and applicable taxes.

For clarity, compensation is not calculated on:

  • Time recorded
  • Accounts issued
  • Gross billings

Tiered Percentage Structure:

  • 50% on the first $5,000
  • 55% on amounts from $5,001 to $10,000
  • 60% on amounts from $10,001 to $15,000
  • 65% on amounts exceeding $15,000

This structure reflects the Firm’s provision of infrastructure, administrative support, trust accounting systems, and ongoing investment in regulatory compliance and risk management, enabling lawyers to focus on delivering legal services within a professionally managed and compliant framework.

Mandatory Overhead Recovery

All overhead, administrative, staffing, compliance, and technology costs attributable to a lawyer’s files must be properly recorded, billed to the client where appropriate, and recovered prior to any calculation of compensation.

Lawyers engaged through the Firm are responsible for ensuring that all such costs are accurately captured and reflected in client accounts in accordance with applicable billing and professional obligations.
